The green galaxy
« on: July 26, 2007, 06:24:22 pm »
Blue and red stars exist... sometimes I've even seen green stars. Not sure whether it's the camera or whether they really exist :). Anyways, now I even stumbled across a green galaxy:

... but the sun is still shining

Ooh, I haven't seen any green ones yet. :o
"This [funerary offering] is the breath of the mouth, excellent for the noble dead! It is nothing wearisome. You shall be an imperishable star, a star in 'She-of-a-thousand-(shining)-souls.'" - from the stela of Nebipusenwosret (Middle Kingdom, Parkinson translation)

I've seen some of those...
But I also noticed that when zooming a bit out: we have green areas in the universe!!! Some areas seem to be covered with these greenies. Dunno what green means...  :-[

The colours are not completely realistic, and I think green is actually red (and red is infrared)! But I'll check that...
Although, having a green area of the Universe suggests that something might have gone a little wrong with one of the filters.

Yes, the colours of the RGB images correspond to the filters:

blue - g-band (green to human eyes)
green - r-band (red to human eyes)
red - i-band (near-infrared, invisible to human eyes)

So many galaxies, so little coffee....

Record: 50 000 in a week.

... I think green is actually red ...

I had some difficulty believing this one was entirely real colour:

I suppose there just could be a lot of reds and blues.  It would be really interesting to see a closer (higher resolution) galaxy with the same color.
