When driving up to Bredon
Today I thought 'pure Eden',
But dandelion yellow set
Against the blue of alconet
Reminded me of Sweden!

Neat! Talking of Sweden, just treated myself to a disc of baritone arias sung by Peter Mattei, the Swedish singer. Fabulous!

Sadly Jussi Björling was cut off in his prime.

Extremely sad, such a wonderful voice. My mum saw him in concert many, many years ago in Manchester.
Despite many requests from the audience he refused to sing 'Nessum Dorma'  :(  (v popular then - long before football pinched it)

Tenors seem to be able to move audiences more easily than any of the other voice types, even allowing for how moving Kathleen Ferrier's voice could be. I wonder why this is.

So true - although I don't know why. They're in very short supply in the choir I belong to - grand total of four and one of those is female!

Yours is next Friday !! How funny - ours is two weeks after (27th) "Sacred and secular favourites" is the title - as we're fundraising for our beautiful village church .... the earliest parts of which date back to 1146 ....  there is of course a little harping included in the concert as well  :) :)

Just got through it, but eyesight is no longer good enough to read notes and wrods fast enough to sing them, so am switiching forthwith from choir to audience ;D.
