Tool to get all the ObjectIds from a topic
« on: July 16, 2008, 01:44:41 pm »
Yesterday, when I launched the second Pea Hunt, I wrote a very little program to extract all the ObjectIds from a topic.  I have just generalised it so it will work for pretty much anything.

Go to http://www.wavwebs.com/GZ/GetObjects.cgi

Give it the Topic number (and optionally select the Temporary forum), it will then give a sorted list of all object ids in the topic.

Optionally give a match string - only messages within the topic that include the match string (case insensitive) will be searched for Objects.

I wont promise that everything it finds is an Object but it makes a good stab at it.

I am sure it will be of use to others...

I made a check with the overlap topic (why this choice ? Who knows) and everything working fine.
Great job.
You can use the same to extract the list of galaxies classified.
I made a java program to do this but I need time to make easy to use it.

It is just 33 lines of Perl.

I even found a use for the "Print" function in the forum...!

It was not being printed at all, it just gives the whole topic in one go, that can then be filtered to find the objects.

No trees suffered in the development of this.

From the URL I guess? So this one would be 270759.

I am using Firefox on Windows and Linux.
Unfortunately I get an error if I use "73" or "73." and a blank document if I
use "73.0" for the Clusters of Galaxies thread.

The error message is

 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>500 Internal Server Error</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Internal Server Error</h1>
<p>The server encountered an internal error or
misconfiguration and was unable to complete
your request.</p>
<p>Please contact the server administrator,
Richard@wavwebs.com and inform them of the time the error occurred,
and anything you might have done that may have
caused the error.</p>
<p>More information about this error may be available
in the server error log.</p>
<hr>
<address>Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at www.wavwebs.com Port 80</address>
</body></html>

Can anyone help?
