What do you reckon? Possible get-together? ;D

Thanks to Fluffy for showing me this. I am happy to organise this one as I haven't taken a turn for a while.

There seem to be two sets of events running on the Saturday, whilst Friday is an evening and Sunday is a day event.

Update: There's a map of how to get to it here. The address is Bradley Rd,
Herstmonceux, East Sussex, UK. For directions, go to the website and click "Visit Us". I can't give direct links as everywhere on the website has the same address, so you'll have to find your way around it I'm afraid!
Another update: Sysboy has shown me a way to get around that. See next post. ;D

Apparently we don't need to book! ;D ;D ;D Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Update 17 million: Ignore all my posts in which I say everywhere on the site has the same address. Sysboy has shown me a nifty trick involving right-clicking to get the right addresses.

Programme of events: http://www.the-observatory.org/astro_festival.htm

(and let's keep my copy)

Proposed programme of events includes the following*
Friday 5th September 6.30pm – 11pm

Viewing (telescopes not open to the public during the day will be open for evening viewing sessions), tours of the telescopes, visits to the Space Geodesy Facility.
Saturday 6th September 10am – 6pm

5 lectures throughout the day (extra cost of £2 per lecture)
Telescope tours,
Tours around the Space Geodesy Facility
Amateur Radio demonstrations throughout the day
Informal practical demonstrations by the BBC Sky at Night Team

Question and Answer sessions on the use of Meade Instruments with Chris Morrison who is the International Business Manager of Meade

Raffle drawn at 5pm (be in it to win it!)
Saturday 6th September 6.30pm - 11pm

Viewing, tours of the telescopes, visits to the Space Geodesy Facility, Terry’s spectacular prize winning quiz
Sunday 7th September 10am – 6pm

Family activity workshop

Telescope tours

Informal practical demonstrations by the BBC Sky at Night Team

Talk by Sir Patrick Moore at 1.00 pm entitled "My View of the Moon"

Space Geodesy Facility

Raffle drawn at 4pm (be in it to win it!)

To get to it, go to "2008 Events Calendar" and choose "September".

And some more good links . . .

Who's coming: http://www.the-observatory.org/astro_festival_2008_speaker_information.htm
(Heather Couper and Nigel Henbest are on a par with Russell Stannard to me - a book by them which I read at about the same age was just as invaluable at getting me into astronomy at a young age, even though the effect was delayed by 15 years or so! ;D)

Visiting: http://www.the-observatory.org/Making_a_visit.html - "how to find us" at the bottom.

Hi

This was great fun last year; sadly I've had to cancel my appearance as I shall be in the US. Glad to see there may be Galaxy Zoo representation too...

I will raise a paw.

Slight preference for Saturday though could do Sunday.

I could be persuaded to go/return via Winchester and/or Portsmouth...

I can do either day.
I will probably drive as it looks like it's rather difficult to get there using public transport.  I should be able to act as a "taxi" to run people from the station to the centre (my rates are very reasonable  ::) ).

I think so - I could make the passengers pay for the parking at the centre  :D

I've added a poll. Sorry, I meant to get sorting this properly before. We need to sort out whether anybody needs accommodation - whether anyone knows of any nice B&Bs nearby for instance - how to get there by train, and the location of nice pubs for dinner. ;D ;D ;D

I'll do a little research during my time off next week. :)

Update: I've modified my first post to include some directions. I'm afraid it's impossible to post direct links to anything on the website, as everything has the same address; basically you'll just have to go to the home page and click the relevant buttons . . .

Count me (us) out for this one I'm afraid - we have visitors from down under then and will have to play hosts!! Do want to go to Herstmonceux one year though - it does sound really good.
