I'd say the policy was sensible.  First classify, then take a closer look if you like.

I think providing the object ID is a good idea.

However, I think some problems could be solved if a remarks section was added to the Gallaxy Zoo2 for each object.
Therefore, if the user selected that something was Odd, then the screen would provide a remarks section so the user could enter in any observations.

Otherwise, an optional link could be provided that pops a person into the forum from the ODDS section that pulls the reference number from the analysis, maybe puts it in the subject line.  So the user is posting the question or comment about the object, without copying and pasting the number.

Great site so far.   I like the simplified inferface to classify galaxies, particularly when objects are ODD.  And this is from a developer.

Question - are we in testing mode?  Or not?   Should we basically use Galaxy Zoo 1 to classify galaxies?

The results from the Zoo 2 Beta will - almost certainly - be added to the final ones (barring statistical quirks) so that's useful. You don't have long to wait for the final version, though...

That Chris language for, "I hope the PCs don't melt down, and I hope they almost melt down due to use" all in one seemingly innocent posting.

Really? You sure that's not the beta site Mark? I just get a message:

Get ready! Galaxy Zoo 2 is coming...

In the meantime you might like to head on over to Galaxy Zoo 1

I'll let Arfon tell you who's running our servers, and you'll see why I'm confident.

Technical problems notwithstanding, I found the classification interface of GZ2 to be even more superb than that of GZ1-unlike many other people, I feel the problems asked are reasonably clear and you can easily understand what the system is asking. The questions are also well-adjusted too-the problems on the galaxies' shape and detailed structure, even the seemingly peculiar Galaxy Wars-are relevant questions that one may ask about when describing a galaxy. (Unfortunately the tutorial in GZ2 seems to be mixing up new participator's brain, so I might make a new GZ2 user guide in the near future ;))
However I want to give some suggestions to improve GZ2:
1. Zoom ability-this has been discussed for many times before, so I don't think I should repeat again why I am pledging for this. I knew that the zookeepers are removing this ability as they are calling for "classification on first-sight", but I doubt whether this method really leads to more precise classification-especially in GZ2, where people are answering questions, not dumping a galaxy into broad categories as in GZ1 (I mean, would you alter your own choosing option in answering the questions when you make a second-thought with zooming? I bet not, as the questions are too straight-forward that you are left with no other choices-unless the object is inadequately zoomed such that you make a wrong choice-that's why I want the zooming ability).
2. The page for additional opinion should be completely restructured-the current button choices (irregular, mergers etc.) should be kept, but I think the tabs function should be included in there, as well as a space for us to fill in any remarks that we want (e.g. overlap? Looks like a shark...). I also suggest to put the hotly-disputed "link to SDSS database for the object under classifying"  in this page. This would on one hand keep the initial classification data from being affected by the additional information, and on the other hand allows people to dig more into the objects that requires more detailed research. I think this would be the best "win-win situation"... ;D
I hope this could help the zookeepers and everyone concerned with GZ.
Before GZ2 is really out, I want to repeat the suggestions above, especially that part about the object id.

Hi

Thanks as always for the suggestions;

1. We will add a zoom feature. However, we need to test how this affects classifications so the original release won't include it.
2. The ability to 'tag' images will be added at some point in the future, but won't be in the original release
3. I'm sorry, but the link to the SDSS will only appear in 'my galaxies' -  you can always go there to follow up on strange objects.

Cheers

Chris

It's easy to zoom by holding down the 'CTRL' key while moving the wheel on the mouse in one direction. Move it in the other it unzooms while holding down the 'CTRL' key.
