Who is keeping an eye on Wikipedia?
« on: May 16, 2009, 12:32:39 am »
Since everyone looks up everything on Wikipedia these days, I am wondering who among the Zooites is keeping an eye on GZ-related Wiki entries?

I am. :) I tried to edit the Dutch page of 'Galaxy Zoo' once, but I was probably doing something wrong and gave up. If that's what you meant... Also, the English page of 'Hanny's Voorwerp' has much more info than the Dutch one even! (And the Dutch has two minor mistakes in it). Maybe I should look into it again... ::)

I have a look by now at two entry.
With galaxyzoo entry there is no Italian version
About woorwerp there is an Italian version but extremely poor
If the zookeeper made an official entry in English I can try to translate and enter in Italian.
About woorwerp with Hanny I can try to modify the Italian version
There is other entry involved ?
By know I try to register in wikipedia.

I think the English of HV is pretty good. Don't know about the Italian one, but that's my poor knowledge about the language. ;) My name shows up in red there btw...

Oh and the English page of HV has a link to my website, but the Dutch hasn't..

GZ has pages in 9 languages.

I do love Wiki. :)

If you think that the English one is good one I try to adjust the Italian version.  ;)

I'm not registered with Wiki but we've got Aida here keeping an eye on it.  Aida if you need a hand let me know and we can work something out here, since I can't add or modify anything on Wiki, I can help you out through here.

My experiences with Wikipedia, in the past, have been varied. As a researcher, I've been stung by "slanted" views, stated as objective facts.

The faith that so many have shown on this website of the information regarding galaxies and astrophysics on Wikipedia has given me a bit more assurance to use it as a source of basic knowledge. However, I don't think that I would ever use it as a source for any in-depth focus on any topic.

Sounds negative? I suppose so, but in my heart, I believe that it is a good project and will usually provide good resources for those who wish to know the basis of things that they are thrust into or areas that are alien to them.

When I had to investigate the Wiki project, I found it to be filled with wide-eyed, intelligent people who really wanted to do something good. There are flaws in their system and their approach, but they seem adamant to make the thing work. My best to them.

I simply registered an account in wikipedia and then I was able to modify pages. I believe it's possible also without registration.

Hello everyone  :D  I found the Galaxy Zoo in Spanish had a few typos and I corrected them.  It is a little bit shorter than the English version.
I will check the Hanny's Voorwerp next to see if it needs fixing.  ;D
