Astronomy for 7-11 year olds?
I'm a retired teacher and I want to develop a Junior Astronomy Section on a primary school website I help with.
The idea is to update it once a month, through the Autumn/Winter Seasons with clip art and updates of things youngsters can see with the naked eye or binoculars. Alongside this would be practical activities to help youngsters find their way around the evening sky, space and astronomy information, with news and links to suitable child centred websites.
I would value some thoughts and suggestions on how to make this a success!

What a fantastic idea, Geoff! ;D
From my limited experience with primary school kids, and my own memories of being an astronomy fanatic since that age . . .
Have some general astronomy questions and answers, too. I've had 10-year-olds ask me very intelligent questions about warped time, black holes, the Big Bang etc. so the levels can get high if you like. In fact, invite the kids to write in with their own questions, and even answers, perhaps! Also lots of amazing picture tours would be cool. Maybe a little flying saucer icon to take you from planet to planet or someting?
If I can be of any practical help, gathering information and so on, please let me know :)

Thanks Alice.
I think I'll keep it a simple (sky maps, astronomical events and puzzles etc) as possible and give plenty of links to other more professional sites. Also many thanks for your kind offer.
.....watch this space!

Finally gone live with the revised School Website – I would be particularly interested in your comments on the Astronomy Section.
