Nice Jules, I was watching Mars too ;D

I did also catch the Orion Nebula before the clouds took over the sky. It's the fuzzy blue blob to the left of the bush ;)

Well Astronomy is not all about wading through muddy fields, treading in something smelly in the pitch black. :D
Unless you like that sort of thing. ::)
There is some astronomy that can be done in the daytime as well.
I.e. our own star.
Before I begin, please don’t look through telescopes, or binoculars, as that will damage your eyes, and can lead to blindness.
I took this photo using the screen on the back of my camera, and did not use the view finder.
Anyway, I took this photo as the sun was going down, and as always there was a tree in the way.
But when the sun went below the horizon, it left a beautiful sky.
I am afraid my camera didn’t do it justice.
No info on the setting as it was just a quick photo, sorry. :(

 :)

This is one of my favourite threads.  ;D  I love all the different photos and handy bits of information. It has really inspired me to have a go. I was bought a really cute little pinhole camera kit for my birthday the other week. It came with photo paper, developer, fixer, trays etc to do it yourself. So I shall try something out with this thread in mind. It will probably take a while for me to crack, but the first ok one I promise to post. :)

Nice one star man - the leaves stubbornly still attached to the tree do look cold. :)

Sounds interesting Echo - looking forward to seeing the result already!

Tonight is looking distinctly dodgy.... :-\

Maybe it's OK if I post, by tying one eyepiece behind my back... These shots from last night used our campus observatory, pretty comparable to what many well-equipped amateurs have. Our drawback is that we sit on top of a building with heating exhausts and vibrations from everything out to freight trains passing a kilometer away. I was mostly after Mars, stacking images with a StarShoot II camera, but it's still a tiny little thing (especially since we tend to have our worst seeing in the winter). Also had OK results on areas of the Moon around Mare Nectaris and Posodonius.

No need for any of that!! Welcome to the challenge Bill.  :D I too find telescope views of Mars disappointing - it's just not big enough.

Thanks for the link BP, I may get some of that.
Well done Star man.
I couldn’t see Hanny’s one.
Love your moon stargazingmommy
Looking forward to it echo-lily-mai.
I used to develop my own black and white film and prints.
Mind you it was a long time ago, such a satisfying hobby, I never got tired of seeing the images appear before my eyes, just like magic.
Right back to work.
I got an image of Jupiter.
Tried to get close, but I always seem to get a streak, even with a tripod.
Maybe the old hand over the lens while its open, move hand and count 2 seconds ::)
Sorry its not to good im afraid. :'(

Well done Paddy - I think you might have saved the day with that one. The moons were strung out 2 each side of Jupiter at that time (2 at 10 o'clock and 2 at 4 o'clock). Might account for the elongated look.
