As IYA draws to a close why not continue with our own Galaxy Zoo celebration of Astronomy in the form of a “365” astrophoto challenge?
This entails someone (or more than one person) posting an astronomy related picture
each day of 2010.
The rules.
1. The picture must be taken by the zooite(s) in question using his/her own equipment on the specified day and must be astronomy related.
2. People are busy beings so I think we can allow people to post late (eg the following day) as long as the picture was taken on the appropriate day.
3. As well as the picture I think we need the date it was taken, equipment used (digital, film, mobile phone camera, telescope etc), camera settings and a brief description of the subject (if it's not obvious!) I think we can allow a small number of photos taken with remote telescopes too as long as we have at least one picture each day taken with a zooite's own equipment.
4. We could also include atmospheric phenomena such as cloud pictures, sun dogs, haloes etc and pictures of astro equipment will also count (useful for when it’s cloudy!)
I'll take and post a picture tomorrow 1 January. Please join in! As it is already 2010 in some places someone may already have a photo to start the ball rolling.
Hopefully this will encourage others to have a go at astrophotography as it is so satisfying and all you need is a camera and a clear-ish sky. As long as we have at least one photo posted for every day we will fulfill the challenge.
At the end of the year I'll stitch all the photos together and post a link to the result.

EDIT - It seems the best way to manage the number of photos is to compile them on a monthly basis. They will be stored on my Flickr account and posted on the forum. If anyone does not want me to include their photo(s) in the monthly montage please let me know. Drop me a PM and I won't include them. Thanks.
