I detect a strategy of plying the judges with overlaps. Interesting...
Dear NGC3314,
I'm not a strategist facing a court but a layman (in retirement after more than 42 years of IT work far away from astrophysics and science in general). This citizen science GZ gives me the opportunity of helping in some way the improvement of research and motivating young researchers under your guidance.

I understand that your actual telescope facility settings is in condition to observe "absorbers" that's why i've suggested some SDSS id's.
As i am an occasional reader of papers I found a lot of studies of Damped lyman alpha objects, in particular recent http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/1006.1364
quasars: absorption lines – Galaxies: quasars: individual: J211444-00553 (in your targeted slot)

Quoting this team they got 40 candidates they are carrying out HST and ground base observations. Do you share some of their candidates?
Could be another suggestion? far from a strategy...
Thanks
c_cld

Dear NGC3314,
I'm not a strategist facing a court

And (not for the first time) I am someone whose sense of humor can seem a bit obtuse...

Keep the ideas coming!

(heads off to click on that DLA preprint)

Next to MRK 0490. No spectra that I can find. Listed in SDSS as a galaxy.

Look at the length of that tail! and the loop round the upper one. This seems very similar to some that we have been looking at recently in mergers
http://cas.sdss.org/dr7/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?id=587742631737229753
tail may be made of new stars, or hot gases.

I detect a strategy of plying the judges with overlaps. Interesting...

I also tried for the AGN strategy but one of my favourite non-voorwerpje isn't in range :'( :D

Peter (Lightbulb500) and I want to ask if nebulae are possible targets, like the eagle nebula?

Yes. The Eagle is probably too large, though - our slit spans about 5 arcminutes, so we wouldn't have any blank sky for comparison. Planetary nebulae could be cool - plenty of lines down in the blue (as well as being bright enough that we get a lot of signal in a shortish exposure). These have the advantage that they are mostly near the galactic plane where our galaxy targets are sparse.

We're seeing some very attractive objects so far!
