 :D  :D  :D

I signed up for Galaxy Zoo
And thought up an avatar new
But Budgieye's stare
Now seems like a glare
So I thought I would try a new view.

Now Smith's cloud of hydrogen gas
Is moving towards us quite fast
Its dark matter halo
and resulting inflow
Will make us some new stars in Perseus.

:o :o :o Fantastic! Your Wiki article doesn't actually mention how recently her cloud was shown to be so important (see below):

So Miss Smith is now Mrs Gail Bieger;
I expect it will always intrigue her
To think that her cloud
Has eventually wowed
Even hard-to-wow Letts up in Riga!

Most matter's now thought to be dark,
Just gravity being its mark —
Something quite unsuspected
Till Zwicky detected
This dog that didn't bark!

Ummm, struggling, is it a reference to Sherlock Holmes?

Yes, indirectly. It's a metaphor I've come across more than once in articles on dark matter — the idea being, of course, that by neither emitting nor scattering light it is keeping quiet. so failing to advertise its presence, even if its gravity does eventually give it away :D.

LOOKING INTO THE VOID
Our friend Laihro has taken much trouble
(Using DR7 CasJobs — not Hubble!)
To show things we've called 'void'
(Getting purists annoyed)
Are right out at the edge of their bubble!

Yah for Laihro !

Does this mean we will have to go through all the galaxies again, and re-classify for neighbours? :-\

See what  Live SETI has done
A search for smart life has begun
Just using one's eye!
I had wondered why
Computers should have all the fun.

I look at the cascade of data
Seeking a line that is straight, I
Just see more rain,
Looks much the same
As the view from my window all winter.

 8) :D 8) ;D 8)

So the Zooni's now loking for punters
(Such as registered Planet Hunters)
To check with a glance
Any interesting slants
In the beams from the ATA's shunters.

Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw have shared
Expertise* on how mysteries are bared:
How what can happen does
(With each 'why?' and 'because')
And why E=mc2.

I found "Why does E=mc2" quite incomprehensible :(

OXFORD 28 APRIL 2012
While some stayed at home with their feet up,
Two dozen attended the meet-up;
Our physics updated,
We left, quite elated,
But Oxford, next year, turn the heat up!
