Here's the one I mentioned that showed up in my 1985 paper (on the context of "here is one of many galaxies reported as having optical jets which turn out to be something else"): NGC 1568 and 1568A, which is DR8 1237645941835694151. NED lists z=0.015524 for the elliptical and 0.015427 for the distorted spiral.



One of the best-known long-tailed galaxies is in the triplet Arp 295. The galaxy with tails in both directions is 1237679996093137044, z=0.022019. Its northwestern neighbor has z=0.023236. Most of the time, one expects long tails and a lot of tidal damage when the galaxies' relative velocities are small, not much larger than the galaxies' internal orbital motions. That way the tidal forces have a long time to build up along the same direction in the rotating frame of the galaxy.

It's a long way away (z=0.211), so the tail is faint ...



SDSS J095731.05+353322.8 (DR7 ObjId 588016890636206188); it's also a "good candidate" in the Sloan-based Polar Ring Catalogue (SPRC-91).

SDSS says the bright green thing is a star, not a Green Pea (or quasar; there's no spectrum, so we can't really check); however, there's the hint of a short tail apparently coming from it ...

Too far south for SDSS, but a great pair: IC 5174/5.  This R-band image has north up. The tidal tails extend about 200 arcseconds, which would be ~140 kpc at z=0.037. hat star has scattered light in a really annoying place. The face-on spiral is a large galaxy; its arms span a diameter of 36 kpc, probably a bit larger than the Milky Way's obvious spiral structure.

The texture of the tidal arms is interesting - they seem to have multiple strands in some places rather than being very smooth as in Bruno's integral sign.

The SPRC "good candidates" may well be a rich source of these objects!
