Oxford Meet-up, April 28/29th 2012
« on: December 16, 2011, 01:45:25 PM »
I was talking to Zookeeper Chris recently and we thought it would be a great idea to have a Zooite meet-up in Oxford early in the new year, a weekend in February or April (when Chris is free).

We could visit the Royal Oak pub where Galaxy Zoo was born and also have a meal together somewhere in Oxford, either later afternoon or early evening to allow people who’ve travelled a long way to get back home. There are many other attractions in Oxford as well, so add your ideas to this thread  :)

The available weekends are:

February: 4/5, 18/19, 25/26  (AstroFest is over the weekend of 11/12)

April: 7/8 (Easter), 14/15, 21/22, 28/29

We will add a poll a bit later to see which dates suit the majority of interested people.

Thanks for stickying this Hanny  :-*

I think April would be the better month but we will see what everyone else thinks.

Brilliant Geoff! I meant to reply to your PM but have been either asleep, working or essay-writing :D So glad you went ahead and started it; it's what I would have asked you to do ;D

I will think about dates and get back! ;D

Here's some info about the Royal Oak pub in Oxford:

The Royal Oak Pub

Royal Oak reviews

To get an idea of where it is in relation to the centre of Oxford, put the pub's postcode into Google Maps:  OX2 6HT

If anyone has any ideas for a place to eat in Oxford, please post them  :)

April 8 is Easter.
Is this weekend likely to be busier or more expensive ?

Just checked flights for that weekend as I know what the price was for the February trip and it's not more expensive.. And don't trains usually have (approx) the same rate too? People might want to book early rather than later though I guess.. What does the rest think? :)

I always forget about Easter  :(

Hopefully it will still be all right for the meet-up.
