Very cool OOTD!  ;D

Well it took till Tuesday, but this is supposed to be a holiday :)

so

Galaxies with higher number of clump counts:

? The third and fourth would fit in the caterpillar zoo, the fifth is a possible.

I am not sure that BigFoot is a caterpillar. It certainly intrigued me enough to write an OoTD though.

Peter

Maybe it's just me, but that last one looks more like an overlap than a single object (or set of physically-related objects).

Also, in the OOTD itself, the yellow blob in SDSS 16434337+33011269 may be a background (or, possibly, foreground) object (it's the only BigFoot which seems to have an included yellow blob).

Point taken...I think that it may well actually be a foreground object. That might throw the redshift into question - and hence size and...

This

got posted to me as a caterpillar the other day.

Here is the Skyserver image (Photoz is 0.144 +/- 50%!):

and a wider view from DR9:

Apart from the fact that it seems to be falling off the edge of the Universe, It appears to be floating in a sea of similar objects. Are these the sort of field objects that were referred to in the previous post?

Answering my own posts again - sad  :(

anyway this is the wider area around son of BigFoot

- and it's not exactly cluttered with other objects!

So there isn't a similar clutter around them (DR8,9 don't give much info on BigFoot itself)

Maybe a polar ring.
Reminded me of some images in following paper.:

Following one reminded me of BigFoot's Big Brother aka BigFoot_2.:

That last one looks like a "c" for the Galactic Alphabet.

I'm so intellectual.

I would say, that it looks like a horn of plenty, doesn't it?

I really thought that this OoTD had more or less closed down! Very happy if it doesn't though!

Interesting things Big Feet!

The ones that you show are fascinating. Can't make up my mind whether or not they are mis-registrations or not.

I've seen quite a few similar sorts of things, even if not recently ('cos I've not been online much!). As an example:

Don't think that they are Big Feet though. This one might be but can't decide. Anyone any thoughts...
