The "Tips" thread is amenable to 'experimental' formats and these examples are Photoshopped. Keeping images like this from the 'main' threads is important so as not to confuse formats - as some are altered by design for classification. Regular format is the first choice with links to derived images. As was mentioned in the QSO-tip-thread, there are ways to cross-match a system's image features based on pixel characteristics. There is a supply of images prefixed mostly by "AHZ2-" which match nicely with exemplars from systems with known characteristics - like AGN. This thread is dedicated primarily to Blue Pearls or Blupers. Anyone wishing to drop an ID or image for matching and sorting can do so in the Caterpillar thread. Other threads are scanned for candidates too.

-116w is a good place to start. First a brief tour of the features. In these two images (below) different options are used to 're-illuminate' the target with curves and 'delimit' the system into a 'clean' black and white contrasted boundary. The curve image is contained within the white boundary. With more curve colors features are easier to locate. In the first image the curve is primarily resolved into red and blue. There are only 5 saved curve settings and 1 is chosen for application so as to reveal other matches.
The other image has 2 posterized insets with matches isolated from the primary target. Too many matches can muddle the composition and features can be hidden. When an inset is introduced it has positional items included for comparison with the primary target. These two insets were made to clarify the scaling of the matches. The match can be enhanced to 'find' 'thin' or obscured features. There are two discreet matches with a yellow and gold fill that were scaled to reveal the asymmetry of -116w. The gold scale at 45 was necessary to bring a small node into view. The other matches reveal an hourglass or figure-8 overall configuration to the system. The lumpy blue match near the center edge is associated with the yellow color match. On occasion ad hoc matches are made at random to reveal matches outside the sets usually applied - here designated as "5 Random." The blue 'lakes' in the white space are filled versions of the blue outlines, or stroke, in the primary image. Insets from SDSS are included to 'frame' the Bluper's immediate environment with other objects.

This one and -116r were gleaned from the
'horizontal' set of images of -1160 thru
-116z that contains -116w (above.)
Examining the companions in the
'neighborhood' of blue targets may yield
a better fix on their structure, composition
and relationships.
A few targets have been located with good
redshifts and it is hoped that the scaling of
the matches will allow other objects without
reliable measurements to be 'guesstimated.'
These two represent a typical quandary of
interpretation. Is -116r really smaller or
farther away? We can somewhat
interpret the distribution of markers and
approximate their proportions.

A few more items worth mentioning. -116w is in the neighborhood where one of the Bluper candidates was first spotted. These objects remain obscure at this writing. Their 'classification' here is based on pixel matches from other systems. It would be an extra benefit to possibly relate the Bluper to other objects like it and even 'larger' systems like -116w. Among these other targets several have a 'twist' along an axis of the object. Without matches the -116w system appears 'irregular' and somewhat helical. In Blupers the twist may show up, ironically, as a default blue poster fill in line or in consort with -164u (Sy1) raised and stroked fill. -1s8m is an example.  -1r81 by contrast (below) lacks a 'twist' and shares the long shape. The toroidal node is another curiosity of matching. In most cases it is 'skirt' or pixel boundary. The redshift differential is more noticeable with these two targets.

Finding Blupers

Here are 11 images of potential Blupers. They were chosen by color and an inclination to have a compact or 'dense' feature.
It just happens that AHZ2001f33 does not have an obvious XrayS or RadioS (galactic) system within NED's 1 arcmin separ.
The others in the series were not checked. At first glance, the systems could resemble almost any series group. A few are
obvious candidates and others are less obvious. The image scales look similar but they are not all the same scale.
These are the targets, or target companions, of the -1f33-series. This list is not exhaustive.

As was the case with AHZ200116e (previous reply,) the area neighbors present a variety of derivative markings. The two in the second row have a 'nested' derivative sequence. -1f3m and -1f3n, lacking Bluper marker 'tags' do have a noteworthy yellow (Sy2?) skirt features. The latter marker in -1f3n does not appear nested - as if acquired to the target. -1f3m has an innermost Sy2 marker extinguished at der(30) - a moderate to weak marker. The -1f35 companions and -1f3q have a 'formation' or 'inception' theme that is Bluper-like. Were the Blupers forged in larger systems there could be a periodic accretion phase that results in Blupers with single or multiple nodes.

AHZ2001f3z (lower right above) has a RadioS and GClstr (SW & SE) and exhibits a 'stretched' conformation. Were the morphology
of a target the result of a local gravitational influence then the redshift might be readily obtained. Here is another 'stretched' target AHZ2000qsz which has several field companions.

At the bottom is a schematic of a gravitational wave generated by a system (no 'merger' required) and its propagation to a small target.
The diagram is a simple generality of complex events that can explain why the blue targets we see have so many varieties of shapes
and sizes. In this example the small target is either drawn to the source of the wave or it is carried by the wave and the symmetry of
the target is altered by he interaction.

On the top is the 2-D array of the potential contributors of the wave dynamic.  QSOs are often included in various studies and reliable
data is gathered continuously. These systems are favorable candidates to act as wave generators.

Besides these 'stretched' targets there are other conformations which can be considered as influenced by gravitational waves - tbc. ,-g

Another red edge, AGZ00013zw, was randomly pixel matched with -144x.
The inset shows the peripheral population of AGZ00013zw clustered about the ring in -144x.

The third galaxy, SPRC-75 SDSS J010700.14+284533.8 is also interesting:
 It's not a random overlap, because both edge-on components have
same systemic velocities. So, it may be an interacting pair or  a polar
ring caught in the process of its formation (if the arc-like deformation
of the smallest galaxy will be taken in account).

This batch is on loan from the caterpillar thread.


These are used as examples in that thread as examples of "caterpillars" or "blue blobby objects" and here
we can call them potential blupers. The posting format is outlined for each of the examples.
Basically, any blue target with a Ra&Dec below is the center of a wheel of other objects.
1) The target image ID - preferably an AHZ200-prefixed Hubble target.
2) The redshift - really looking for anything that is not z-photometric.
3) The image scale - preferably 0.75.
4) The Ra&Dec_ formatted for searching.
5) The objects NED associates with the target with emphasis on 'hot' sources.
It is ok to mention GGroup and GLens. NED mentions some RadioS and XraySs
but we don't want stars. Check objects with >3 references for 'hot' sources.
6) The other targets in series of 1) - eg., suffixes -0 thru -9 and -a thru -z.
Not all the series-targets will be like the 1) target. They may be 'hot' or companions
of series-targets.

It's a lot of work. The NED extended list objects are showing up in renderings and
contribute to the bird's eye view of the 1) target in the 2-D area. Some target-series
objects also are positioned very close by and contribute more useful information to renderings.

Along with this detailed list below (pardon any omissions, typos and system type
descriptions) there is a rendered series image for these targets.

It appears my reported redshift came from
identifying the single visible emission line as [OII]3727. 
I wasn't able to locate where Capak et al. 2007 report
the redshift of z=1.3 in their paper, but the note on NED
suggests that this is a (presumably less reliable)
photometric redshift based on measurements from the
COSMOS photometric catalog.

Additional remarks for -00u2:
From PrimTarget we get TARGET_QSO_FAINT.
The toroidal core feature may have contributed
to the z-phot>1 and shifted the target toward the
mean of QSOs (z1.3) in the 2006 study.

structurally mirror images.

Cat_set black and white w/curve.
At the bottom right -00u2 is an obvious candidate as a Cat-
or Bluper. As mentioned, it is similar to -1hag. -00u5 is the
smaller companion of -00u2 at a different scale (z1.6phot s.81) -
checking the target-series can be helpful. If we saw -00u5 by
itself it might be dismissed as an object off the tip of an edge-on
spiral system. The change of scale of the -00u5 also changed the
extinction of the der(Sy1) marker. The -00u2 image extinguishes
at 40 and 31 (upper/lower.) The other extinguishes at 28 and 9
(upper/lower.) A random pixel match from the center of the torus
matches the largest (also toroidal) terminal node of -0cod
(bottom left) at tolerance >25. Can we make a (strong) case
indicating that -00u2 and -00u5 are local to each other and
that the redshifts of -00u2 are too high? Moreover, -00u2, -0cod
and -1hag might represent a structural type of (compact) system or
antecedent of GPairs or GGroups.
We can't forget AHZ40007mi (Not in the AHZ2-series.). When -1r79
and -1qer were mentioned in the first post, it was brief and circumstantial. -07mi has matches from that genera of objects.
This is a more complex Bluper due to the compact  spatial configuration. Our view/perspective may be contributing
to the jumbled appearance.  Here we can see -0oba a 'disentangled' target unlike the other three mentioned.
The inset in -0oba's image looks like a (hybrid-paired) cw-system with an acw plasma event feature.

The extragalactic jet is a stream of material extending more than 2 million light-years, making it larger than our entire Milky Way galaxy.
The jet, known as PKS 0637-752, was recently captured in a new image by the Australia Telescope Compact Array in New South Wales, Australia.

HT were indirectly introduced from here into Caterpillers because of their ratio and distribution of red and blue (rvb) features.
Unfortunately there was little written about this type of system (HT or Hen's Teeth [(idiomatic) anything very rare
or impossible to obtain is said to be like finding hen's teeth] - Wiktionary) and it was not talked up in the forum.
As it turns out, they are not as rare as thought. In light of a new publication (below) it would be very "cool" indeed
to know if the HT are associated with an exotic form of BH. It would be even cooler to have a correlation of Bluper
and/or Caterpillar formation and evolution arising from these 'gravity sinks.'

"This galaxy seems to be very old," Dr Van den Bosch said. "So somehow this black hole grew very quickly a long time ago, but since then that galaxy has been sitting there not forming any new stars or anything else.

"We're trying to figure out how this happens, and we don't have an answer for that yet. But that's why it's cool."
