I wonder, why the answer to the question "What good does "REPORT" do, in GZ4 Talk?" isn't given in the Talk Tutorial ?
I couldn't find any information about the Report button in the Talk Tutorial. The forum users know the report button from the forum, but the ones, who just use Talk, might not.
In Talk, besides reporting comments, it is possible to report a user.: The report button is also in the Profile of a user. Well, there is no report button visible in your own Profile.: I think, that it isn't, because nobody would report oneself.
EDIT: Curiously, you aren't asked to do a comment, why you report a user.

Reporting a user works very well if most of their posts are inappropriate. Reporting a single post is very useful if it's from a user who has many posts, most of which are fine.

With the schoolkids, I thought it was useful when ElisabethB posted telling them to cool it. In the future it may also be helpful to note that the location they're posting from is tracked, so the science team may contact their school if they behave inappropriately.

What's more likely, of course, is that we'll just delete their comments (and the 1 or 2 responses to them that don't make any sense as standalone comments) after their class is over, when they're not likely to return (and those who do return on their own are less likely to have posted inappropriately in the first place).

By the way, I've now managed to break my administrative page twice, which is why it's taking a while for me to deal with reports... sorry.

I like the idea of commenting when reporting a user, and I will suggest it to the developers.

On the forum, the one, who reports a post, is asked to write a comment.
Besides, on the forum there is a report button in the Personal Messages, but in Talk it's missing. So this should be also suggested to the developers of Talk.
BTW, please inform the developers of Talk about the forum topic.: "A thread to talk about Talk.": http://www.galaxyzooforum.org/index.php?topic=280156.0
On the forum there is a Posting Guideline available.: http://www.galaxyzooforum.org/index.php?topic=270798.0
In Talk there should be also a posting guideline and a "warning message" on the main page.: "Please read this before posting!" The users shouldn't feel free to post anything.
Elizabeth pointed out, that there are other kind of inappropriate posts in Talk, which are not good for kids. Who knows, how many inappropriate posts there are still in Talk and haven't been reported yet. There are so many posts in Talk and many users might not know the report button. Isn't there any software available, which could report such posts?
There is something said in the Forum Guideline about Internet filter software.

PS: I remember, that a zookeeper once said, that the GZ forum is known as the friendliest place in the Internet.

Well, Talk could always be closed down and cleansed - while that is happening then they could use the GZ Forum.

It's again time to check the latest report list in Talk ! Those annoying group of school kids is back in Talk.
I posted a warning message in Talk.: http://talk.galaxyzoo.org/chat/discussions/DGZ10069sz
I stop using GZ Talk for the moment. I don't want to read nonsense and my posts to be commented in an inappropriate way.

I posted the warning message, after reporting a new inappropriate comment by one of those school kids. I also posted a warning message in that reported Talk discussion.

I revisited Talk. There is another new inappropriate post by another user (this one is after the warning message).

There was a piece on BBC News, a few days ago, about school children (who have basically just been naughty, pushing people etc.) being given a police caution, which remains on their record and can affect their future careers...............

I looked at them all, can't find the offending post.

I posted 3 warning messages in Talk today. One in the Chat board and two further ones in the discussions, which contain inappropriate comments.
So if you look at my Profile in Talk, you can find out those discussions.
Well, I didn't read all of their comments. I might have picked somehow the inappropriate discussions. I don't know, if they posted further inappropriate comments today.
