Integral sign spiral galaxies
Quote from: Wiki
These are galaxies that look like a stretched-out S shape (or like the integral sign used in calculus). Some objects, such as IC 167, are simply ordinary spiral galaxies viewed from an unusual angle. Other objects, such as UGC 10770, are interacting pairs of galaxies with tidal tails that look similar to spiral arms.
This is Wiki's info about these amazing galaxies.
These stretched spirals are usually blue and beautiful. So I started this 'collection'OotD for these'take my breath away galaxies'.
Their classifications are usually S(B)c and Sdm.They are mostly disturbed,so they often appears blue. But some of them are actually the galaxies'(Sc/SBc) 'Lateral view'.

To under stand why they appear like this, let's see some real objects:

cool list!  ;D

Could you maybe sort their elongated degree? It would be a ton more helpful!  ;D
I like to find asteroids and galaxy mergers- but all galaxies are still fine to me.

Nice collection!

One of the most classic integral-sign galaxies is NGC 6045 in the Hercules galaxy cluster:

(Oh, and it does qualify as an overlapping system, although the big spiral is kind of disturbed...)

I searched (google) and found out, that there is the "Integral Sign Galaxy" UGC 03697.: As far as I know, it isn't available in SDSS.

Smooth integral, presumably interacting with UGC 03714 at 7.6

And there is "Bruno's Violin Clef", which is also integral-shaped.:

GZ blog post:

It’s been informally dubbed the “Violin Clef” or the “Integral” based on its shape:
http://blog.galaxyzoo.org/2011/10/24/update-on-the-violin-clef-merger-redshifts-and-merger-zoo/

It was simulated in the Merger Zoo. Here are the top simulation results.:

Thanks for pointing that out - some of us were just working on spectra for that pair, and knowing that Merger Zoo did an analysis will really help get the analysis started. I just asked John Wallin for their best parameters (oddly enough, my younger sister just took a position as a department chair at the same institution).

Thanks!
I haven't been here for my lessons since this. And now I'll add the second release:
NVSS J000415+032242(violin clef)Elongated degree:★★★★★

System:

PGC 000111Elongated degree:★★★★

System:

2MASX J01221324-0652452Elongated degree:★

System:

Can we find the difference between those, like what do they appear before/after the interact?
