The Asteroid Thread
« on: August 10, 2007, 10:29:40 pm »
This is a thread for asteroids that you find. Asteroids are close to Earth, and move relatively quickly. Due to the fact that these pictures were taken with 5 different filters at different times for each filter, each color from an asteroid is moved over from the rest of it. This is also what causes the satellite streaks, only satellites move much faster from our point of view, so we get long lighsaber llike streaks. Help me get it stickied, as these seem to be somewhat common and are very nice. I will start us off with my only one (lower left corner):

As a note, here is an Object of the Day that is an asteroid:

There you go, I've posted others elsewhere and I'll bring them here as soon as I find them again ;)

If I ever find another one... They seem rather rare.

No, they're popping up in the threads here, and we're only a small part of the GZ participants. If you have the time, why don't you do a search for "asteroid" and take the pictures from the various threads, remember it's polite to say who found it though, and if you can, post a link to the thread as well.
I have seen others by mitch.wheat and I posted on one of his threads (he has been making a new thread for each one) that you have made this thread here and gave him the link, so he may be along later with his others :)
