I was a bit concerned that publishing the query could create a little mess because it is quite complicated and for the database expensive to perform. People can easily modify it to a never ending resource consuming monster. But now I remember that there are some limitations regarding the runtime and result size of a query that should prevent a breakdown of the database. I will post it and some comments in the near future.
And now that we have more than 7400 objects there maybe is not much left to collect. I will promote this by notifying people when they post objects from the list. This could be the end of the thread because it's got no obvious purpose anymore. But at the same time I gave some ideas on how the thread could change its topic a little and thereby survive.
Hi laihro -
"...because it is quite complicated and for the database expensive to perform".
Give some of us a little credit that we are able to understand things "quite complicated", and it's not your responsibility to protect the database from "expensive" useage !! SDSS actually
encourage people to use the database. There are internal limits set on the extent of any searches. Big searches have to be broken down into smaller ones to obtain more comprehensive results.
"....we have more than 7400 objects ". Where are they then ? I for one, haven't seen them.
"I will promote this by notifying people when they post objects from the list."
I suggest that you stop trying to contol this thread. I suggest that the most you should do is to
make suggestions.
If anyone has the "right to control" it's Hanny, the quiet little Dutch girl, who initiated this thread, and who I'm sure from her postings, has no wish to control it !
