I wonder if the "pea selection" yields a sample of interesting objects....
So many galaxies, so little coffee....

Record: 50 000 in a week.

Probably a really souper selection.

(I really will try and stop making that joke one day.)

I don't know if 85 [OIII] ELGs is of interest to anyone......14 aren't catalogued.

A telescope in Spain called CADIS has done a lot of Emission Line Galaxy surveys.

http://www.mpia-hd.mpg.de/CADIS/

In this article in mentions oxygen-rich 0lll galaxies at around the same distance as
Pea galaxies.

http://www.mpia-hd.mpg.de/CADIS/elgs.html

This paper was given as a reference in NED 10-15 times. It concentrates more on the
way they were measured.

http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-ex_refcode?refcode=2007A%26A...462..535Y

0lll galaxies have much in common with Hll regions. There is a mention of 0lll in wiki/Hllregions.

"Electron transitions from these levels in doubly ionized oxygen give rise to the 500.7 nm line.
These spectral lines, which can only be seen in very low density gases, are called forbidden
lines."

Please don't ;) :D

That would be great! ;D

One last ultra-energetic pea for Hanny  ;)

Nice :) although I have a feeling there are more to come!

I just read trough all the posts again... it's a nice collection! :D

Hanny, what did you start?  I found another 9 'Pea' Galaxies (Olll Oxygen-Rich Emission Line) today in the two Quasar threads.
That is a total of 53. A small population is emerging!!

It's not green - looks rather whithish to me.
And it's missing the characteristics of the "real green peas" .. very flat spectrum with very high O-II and O-III lines.
It isn't a QSO, though: Broad H-alpha line, but the H-beta is completely missing.
AGN, Seyfert ?

Hmm .. looks like I haven't learned my lessons well enough .. I better shut up now ;-)

IMHO. And I don't have a clue ...
