But your first post was "What's the blue stuff below?" as I recall...

But calling it Hanny's "stuff" is awkward in English and does not sound as scientific as calling it Hanny's object.  Astronomers seem to like that word, e.g. Hoag's Object.  It sounds more scholarly to call it Hanny's Object instead of that thing Hanny noticed.

I'm glad you noticed it.  Without you and Galaxy Zoo it might still be unnamed and unnoticed.
 :)

cheers :)

Hanny's thingamajig or whatchamacallit does not have the nice ring of Hanny's Obect, so I cannot object to calling it Hanny's Object.

An English guy translated the English word 'object' online and got 'voorwerp' and I think it's funny that it's now an English term and it sounds more special. Especially since that outcome was never planned. :)

Oh, English is not at all like French!  We have nobody to object if we steal words from other languages.  If you wear your pajamas on the verandah of your bungalow, you've stolen a few words.

I particularly like the Welsh spelling- "gwrthrych" :o ;D ::)
I like to find asteroids and galaxy mergers- but all galaxies are still fine to me.
