Forthcoming TV & Radio shows that might interest you
« on: August 13, 2007, 05:44:53 pm »
I hope no-one minds but i thought a specific thread for people to post details of forthcoming tv and radio shows that might be of interest to other zoo members might be a good idea.

With a bit of luck, it might help to ensure that we don't miss good programming too.

If the moderators agree, maybe they would consider making this thread sticky.
if not, then please message me and i will change the subject and re-word the post.

Guidelines:

1) shows should be likely to be of interest to a significant number of zooers.

2) please show country, tv channel, date and time that the show is due to be aired.

3) a brief description of the show might help too

e.g. (but two real shows that are on later tonight)

England
BBC 4
Time - Earth Time
Dr Michid Kaku explores when time began
Monday 13 August 2007 @ 23:00 to midnight UK time

England
BBC 4
Atom
this must be a repeat, as i've previously seen two of the shows in this series and they are excellent.
if you are into physics, from the smallest to largest, then i would strongly recommend watching this one.
Tuesday 14 August 2007 @ 00:00 to 01:00 UK time (follows on from programme about Time shown above)

I've seen we've got many German members and I know a German TV Guide for spaceflight and astronomy films and documentaries. I hope it's okay if I post it here.

For those in the U.S. who have cable, the History channel is running a series called "The Universe". I've watched every episode and each one was extremely well done. In most places it comes on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. DST. But you might want to check your looking listings for your area.If you miss an episode they usually repeat episodes throughout the week. But, I highly recommend this series.

Finally! Something worth watching on TV.

Presenter Adam Hart-Davis

This week (21 Aug) was part 3, sorry I only just saw this thread. No doubt the whole thing will be repeated on BBC3 or BBC4 later, if it is I will post again here  :D

As a minor diversion from the topic, can I also recommend a radio programme?

BBC Radio 4 has a long running series called 'In Our Time' which each week brings together a number of experts on a particular topic to discuss that subject with the presenter. The series covers all sorts of subjects, but a significant proportion are science related and definitely worth listening too, especially those related to astronomy and cosmology.

The really good news is that the whole thing is archived online and the programmes are arranged by subject so you can easily browse for something you're interested in. Each programme lasts 45 minutes and the archive can be found here.
Any lousy species ever invents the telescope and the spectroscope and looks in between the stars, what do they find? Loads of stuff; but much of it alcohol. Humanoids are the galaxy's way of getting rid of all that alcohol.

I love and like Discovery channel, Animal Planet and Australian channel on Agriculture topics.  The program guide differs from place to place country to country.
