Booked flight, hotel (some loooow-budget place near Cromwell Rd.) and all four conference sessions.

So, (barring major last-minute trouble) scaryitalian will be there, alone, probably wearing "galaxy" name tag over usual scruffy outfit, and looking forward to meeting fellow Zooites and partners.

Suggestion: for ease of identification, can we please have a large-size image of the "o" in the GZ banner, to print on shirts or badges or something?

Our handsome Chris I met last year and I can recognise, but I would feel a bit too scary if I had to point-blank ask everyone else "how did you classify it?"   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

"Our handsome Chris", haha, I can't wait to see what he thinks of that post.  ;D ;D We do need to decide something. Now, hint hint, who was up for making those little badge things? But honestly, I will make myself identifiable, I promise - I will wear my name very visibly - and if you just tell me who you are when you see me, you will be welcome there.

do people want to meet up to go to the sessions together, or are we just gonna meet up after?

Whichever, I guess. I expect I will be lumbered with carrying a Galaxy Zoo banner all day, so feel free to join me if you want to, not it's not compulsory!  :)

(By the way, I'm a bit antisocial in lecures - I have to sit right at the front so I can see, and I take reams of notes. Which Chris noticed me doing in a fantastic lecture he gave once, in which I was in the audience.)

.........

I think I will recognise people by their forum names rather than avatars so I'm thinking of printing my jules sig and sticking it on my bag. Astrofest does get a bit crowded though so we shouldn't be too disappointed if we don't keep bumping into each other! As long as we know where to head for afterwards...

Hi everyone :)

Alice made a wish about those recognisable thingies and I said I want to make one so she can send them to everybody for print and so.. (see this posts ;D)

I'm thinking of an image you can print, maybe on cardboard or anything and then make a cord on it to use it as a sort of necklace or maybe you can make a pin on it or something, whichever you like :)

If someone doesn't agree please sent me a message :)

Fair enough - that thread is rather strange  :P so I've not kept up with it...

That thread is for a laugh.  ;D ;) The Cafe is a delightfully silly place . . .

What I reckon is best is if as many people as want to design some little recognisable picture, with Galaxy Zoo written on it, in colour or black & white, and perhaps space to put your name, and e-mail them to me. That way, I can forward them round to everyone coming, and you can print off whichever you want.

I somehow have a feelng that we might just instinctively recognize fellow zooites from the quizzical staring we are all going to be engaged in!! ;D

Hi guys (unisex term here)
Does anybody else live in London? - apart from me? I used to live not far from the area.

How about something very simple like mobile phone numbers, I am happy to circulate the number of my vintage (ie ancient almost collectable) 'brick' via Alice, who knows about these things. One can send mass text messages....Also happy to research an eating place for - when? Friday or Saturday evenings or both?

I will still be wearing the carnation and mabye a label of some sort (over the scruffpot outfit:) - I imagine there's a bar area in which to congregate in or around the venue??
I can just hear the tannoy..'would all member of the zoo please meet at the watering hole:)'

See you there! Glug glug.

Hey Q,

I think Infinity does too. I'm not sure if we are going to eat together (after Astrofest), but we wil meet on Saturday night (fur sure).

Mobile phone numbers is a good idea ;D ;)

As we'll be meeting at 6pm, I'll bet the place Chris books for us (and from what I've seen and gathered of Chris, he has excellent taste and takes a lot of trouble for people, so it'll be a nice one) will have somewhere we can eat. That's not a certainty, but I would put it at very high probability. :)

I may well be sending out the "You've received this e-mail because you're coming to the post-Astrofest meet-up" tomorrow evening, or Saturday morning. (If you think you should have received it and you don't get it by Saturday night, nag me.) I like the idea of swapping phone numbers, but as you say, we'll do it "internally" - just in case, although the risk is low, we'd better not put out information like what our numbers are and where we're staying on the public domain.

Would be cool if those who arrive Friday evening can have their meet-up, I can help you get started organising it but I won't be there. I won't be arriving until about midnight. Friday evenings not only am I at school but there are usually meetings, and then it's quite a long way home, so I don't expect to even be on a train to London for a looooooooong time!

Incidentally, you can buy your lunch at Astrofest. Judging by last year, however, the queues are pretty long and we may be better off eating lunch elsewhere. I'll be stopping at a bakery and buying sandwiches on the way, I should imagine!

The cafe space is very inadequate and not suitable for a meeting place at all - people end up sitting in corridors and hanging off telescopes clutching sandwiches and coffee! That said they do sell very nice sandwiches - and cake!  :D

As for the tannoy, quarkspin - I'm just waiting to hear the immortal words: "Please make your way to the foyer where infinity is waiting..."  ;D ;D
