It's a pea!

"Peas" are emission line galaxies with powerful [OIII] emissions that fall into the filter that is presented as "green" by SDSS, making them green peas.

So many galaxies, so little coffee....

Record: 50 000 in a week.

I think that will make a lot of people, especially Hanny, feel very hap-pea!  ;D

How cool to find out that the subject of a joke thread is actually really interesting and useful. Talk about serendipity in astronomy, and the value of great fun!

Happy Christmas all!

Undoubtedly they were found serendipitously; all 50 of them. Amazing that an obscure group of
galaxies were picked out by people for a lighthearted thread that has turned out to be something
more substantial. This just shows what Galaxy Zoo can and will do. Awesome.
