The merger picture was really nice!

I do like the idea of a message in "galaxy letters", but I wonder if it might not be a little too "internal"...? I guess it's no problem having an image text that spells out the actual message, in case anyone has trouble seeing it, but the "coolness" or humour of the whole thing might possibly be a bit lost on people who are not zooites themselves...
I'm not sure about that, though. Maybe I'm wrong, and it's a really good idea.

A large 1500x750 jpeg is attached, but you have to logon. The 18 images that make it up are all
taken from the mergers thread and it would be too much of a task to credit them all here. Please
feel free to use it, as you all helped create it.....THANKYOU VERY MUCH and happy 2008. I think
i may well deserve a drink or two!

All of the images that were originally on the mergers thread all got re-centered and re-scaled to optimise the image,
so it is impossible to say who posted what when. The images were centered on obscure galaxies in the background
using the photometric bit of Navigate; i'll keep those links to myself right at this time...

I do have the most of original posting numbers if anybody feels the need to claim one photo or another inspired the
newer image. Some of course were posted several times etc....

We'd have to make it clear that this was a composite. It looks very real, apart from the regular line-up! Those are gorgeous, and that looks like a lot of trouble you've taken, Rick. I wish that was my bedroom wallpaper!

You know, what with the sheer number of people who use this forum, I reckon we ought to be able to get on APOD more than once in our lifetime. So we could do one Galactic Alphabet message one time, and Rick's the other time.

Must say that before GZ  I visited the Astronomy pic site almost daily but rarely bother now so it would be great to send them a pic or two. Will have a look and get back.
